RE-FITTING TUBED
TYRES
Equipment required
Tyrepliers double-forged re-fitting
tyre lever (or a rubber mallet), lubricant, valve tool, tube and
ground sheet.
Procedure
This procedure is the same as for tubeless
tyres, except the tube is fitted prior to the final bead being fitted
with the re-fitting tyre lever or a rubber mallet.
- Lie the rim down flat [the front
of the tyre should be facing upwards].
- Align the marks for the valve position
and any wheel weights.
- Insert the tube inside the tyre.
- Place the valve neck through the
hole in the rim.
- Screw on the valve tool. This will
prevent the valve neck failing back through the hole.
- Push the tube in and around the
tyre.
- Place your foot on the tyre opposite
the valve and push the bead over the edge of the rim and into the
well.
- Push down on the tyre with your
foot [to keep the tyre down in the well] and use the re-fitting
tyre lever or a rubber mallet to work the remainder of the tyre
bead over the edge of the rim - finishing at the valve.
- Inflate the tyre.
When re-fitting the outer side
of the tyre to the rim it is important that you start opposite the
valve and finish at the valve. You must also take care not to pinch
the tube when re-fitting the tyre.
