EMERGENCY TUBELESS TYRE REPAIRS

Equipment required

Tubeless repair kit and a ground sheet.

Procedure

  • Dismount the tyre and locate the injury and inspect for extent of the injury.
  • Remove the foreign matter. Taking care as the object may be sharp.
  • Mark the area with chalk.
  • Squeeze a small amount of cement onto the injury (to lubricate). Clean and rasp the hole with the probe/rasp tool. Repeat this procedure several times until the hole is clean.
  • Select the appropriate size string for the injury.
  • Centre the string in the middle of the eye of the insertion tool.
  • Firmly push the insertion tool through the cleaned hole. Continue until 20mm of the string remains outside the tyre.
  • Slowly rotate the insertion tool '14 of a turn.
  • Slowly pull insertion tool out of the hole.
  • Cut off any excess string as close as possible to the tyre.
  • To complete this repair, apply a patch to the inner wall of the tyre.

THIS IS A TEMPORARY REPAIR METHOD AND SHOULD ONLY BE USED IN EMERGENCY SITUATIONS WHEN OFF ROADING OR OUT IN THE FIELD.
