Tube Repairs
Equipment required
Hand rasp and stitcher; vulcanising
cement, tube patch and ground sheet.
Procedure to repair
the tube
- Remove the tube and locate the
injury.

- Remove the foreign matter; taking
care as the object may be sharp.
- Mark out the damaged area with chalk.
- Select the patch to be applied.
- Ensure that the area (approx 1 50mm)
around the injury is free from moisture.
- Roughen up [an area slightly larger
than the patch] with the rasp.
- If the injury to the tube is a split,
rounding off the ends of the split with scissors will prevent further
splitting .
- Clean the area with a clean cloth
or a buffing solution.
- Evenly apply the Vulcanising Cement
and allow to dry thoroughly (about 5 minutes).

- Peel the backing away from the patch
and centre over the injury. Do not touch the raw rubber.
- Firmly work the stitcher from the
centre towards the edges until the patch is securely bonded to the
tube.
- The repair is now complete.
Hint Remember to carefully
check inside the tyre wall to ensure that no sharp objects remain.
