INFLATING TUBELESS
TYRES
Equipment required
Air compressor, lubricant, rubber
mallet, ratchet strap [optional], tube [optional], and ground sheet.
Procedure
The major problem with re-inflating
tubeless tyres is getting the bead to seat.
Option 1:
- Prior to inflating the tyre lubricate
both beads well.
- Stand the tyre upright.
- Hammer the back of the rim into
the tyre with the rubber mallet to seat this bead first.
- Apply even pressure to the front
of the rim - pushing it into the tyre bead.
- Start to inflate the tyre.
- If needed, continue to lightly hammer
the front and rear beads during inflation.
Option 2:
-
Lubricate
both beads well.
- Place a heavy duty ratchet strap
around the outside of the tyre. Make sure the strap is in the centre
of the tyre tread.
- Tighten the strap. This will apply
inward pressure on the tyre and help to re-seat the beads.
- Proceed to inflate the tyre.
- Lightly hammer front and rear beads
as needed to assist with re-seating the beads.
- As soon as the bead starts to seat,
stop inflating and remove the ratchet strap to avoid damage, then
continue inflating the tyre.
Option 3:
If the inflation procedures outlined
above are unsuccessful, insert a tube and inflate.
Hint Remove the valve core
and replace after the beads have seated This will give you a greater
volume from your 12V compressor which assists with re-seating the
beads.
